Wingate – Leroy Wayne Mattingly age 61 of
Wingate, passed away 9:00 AM Sunday, October 25, 2020 in his home following a
lengthy illness. He was born in Crawfordville June 26, 1959 son of
Lawrence Edward Mattingly and the late Norma Mae Wolfe Mattingly. He married
Julia Ann Friend, December 31, 1982 in Florida and she survives.
Wayne started school in Darlington and attended
high school in Florida. He was a heavy equipment operator in road
construction for Finch Construction of Belleville Florida. He retired as
a result of health issues and they relocated to Wingate. He enjoyed
mowing and could often be seen around Wingate on his John Deere lawn
mower. He was a member of the Crawfordsville Eagles, enjoyed watching
sports on TV. He especially liked NASCAR, UFC and boxing. He was a
hard worker and while employed he never took a ‘sick day’. Wayne was a
very quiet and soft-spoken man who would do anything for anyone. He
always took care of his family.
Surviving along with his wife Julia are: his
father Lawrence of Florida, two daughters; Lisa Renee Hoch of Florida and
Heather Nicole (William) Miller of New Richmond, a son; Brandon Wayne
(Virginia) Mattingly of Florida, a sister; Kathryn Snyder and brother Stephen
J. Mattingly both of Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother
Norma and two brothers; Clifford and Michael.
There will be a public gathering of family and
friends 10:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Family and Friends
Funeral Home of Wingate with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM
